Code Of Conduct
Introduction
The Data Science Nigeria AI+ community is a community with a responsibility to create a family of people, cultures and learning built on the principles of freedom, equality, unity, and to support the development of budding African data scientists. We achieve more when we work together co-operatively and are united as a group for the good of all.
As the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, are endowed with reason and conscience, and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.” We understand that we best serve each other when we allow each other the freedom to be as we are; we accept gender equality and respect all our members’ ethnicities. religions, nationalities and/or other legal differences.
Unacceptable Behaviour
Data Science Nigeria is committed to creating a well-meaning experience for all everyone with the AI+ Community Membership and will not tolerate harassment of members/partners/clients/sponsors/volunteers in any form. Members violating these rules may/will be sanctioned or blacklisted permanently at the discretion of the Data Science Nigeria disciplinary team.
Note: Every actor operates based on these fundamental principles, whether plainly stated or implicitly understood. Forms of harassment and discriminatory behaviour include, but are not limited to:
- Bargaining for economical gain
- Extortion, bribery or inappropriate disclosure of financial interest
- Intimidation or inappropriate harassment of any sort either to a member/partner
- Bad language/expression, Coarse jesting, theft or theft by finding
- Sexual language and imagery
- Sexist, racist, exclusionary jokes and acts that insult or belittle other members/partners in any way
- Offensive verbal comments related to gender, ethnicity, religion, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, nationality, age, or socioeconomic status
- Sexual images in public spaces
- Deliberate intimidation
- Stalking and following
- Unwarranted photography or recording
- Sustained disruption of event programming
- Inappropriate physical contact
- Unwelcome sexual attention
- Sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes
- In any way, creating a sexualised environment
These acts are unacceptable to everyone with the AI+ Community Membership at any time and all Data Science events, whether organised by Data Science Nigeria, its sponsors/partners or by participants themselves.
Reporting an Incident and Grievance:
you can report an incident or concern in two ways:
You can make an anonymous report by completing this form. This is an anonymous form that does not require an email address or other identifying information. We can’t follow up an anonymous report with you directly, but we will fully investigate it and take whatever action is necessary to curb or prevent a recurrence.
When making a personal report, Data Science Nigeria will ensure your identity and information is safe and cannot be overheard. Data Science Nigeria may involve other personnel to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we will ask you to tell us about what happened. This can be upsetting, but we will handle it as respectfully as possible. You will not be asked to confront anyone and we won’t tell anyone who you are.
Enforcing our Standards: Any member asked to stop any harassing or discriminatory behaviour are expected to comply immediately. A response of “just joking” or “teasing” or “playful” will not be accepted; behaviour can be harassing without an intent to offend. If anyone with the AI+ Community Membership engages in any behaviour that breaks the outlined membership code, Data Science Nigeria retains the right to take any actions needed to keep the community’s philosophy of a welcoming environment for all members. This Includes:
- A formal or informal warning to the offender
- Ostracize as a member
- Expulsion from future Data Science events
- Reporting the incident to the offender’s institution, company or sponsors
- Reporting the incident to local law enforcement officials or any disciplinary action at the discretion of the Data Science Nigeria disciplinary team
Furthermore, kindly keep in mind that the Convener’s decision is final as regards any disciplinary action. We expect all holders of the AI+ Community Membership to follow these rules of the AI+ community and all Data Science Nigeria events.
Declaration
- Firmly align with and accept the expected standards of behaviour of the holders of the AI+ Community Membership as well as the responsibility to uphold these standards
- Agree that I am expected at all times to defend these principles, and will make it my responsibility to maintain the spirit of togetherness as a member of the Data Science Nigeria AI+ community
- Agree to willingly share whatever knowledge I have that is beneficial to the community to the best of my ability
- Agree to commit to mentoring an AI+ club in a primary and secondary school, to promote the AI+ Community vision and mission and to assist the development of AI in any capacity possible in the school
- Accept the responsibility to share expertise, promote the philosophy and create a good experience for all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, nationality, age, socioeconomic status or financial gain
